I’ve been making zines since I was 13 years old in the coalfields of WV. All I had was a “borrowed” public library copy machine, a ream of paper, and a weird sense of humor. After moving to Huntington and spending most of my adult life there, I’ve dubbed it my hometown. I’ve been making zines off and on since then.
In 2020, while living in Tennessee, I started Porch Beers as a means to stay in contact with friends in West Virginia and keep my sanity during the early days of COVID. After moving back, it blossomed into a zine that reached all seven continents (yes, even Antarctica) as well as a distro and publishing arm called Porch Beers Press. I was even featured on a lot of neat programs, including NPR’s Inside Appalachia.
Now with Disco 3000, I hope to bring some new and exciting material to y’all. And that’s not even including a couple handfuls of mini and one-off zines. It’s important to record our history, especially those of us in marginalized groups, and I hope to keep recording and storytelling for a long time.
