Disco 3000 #4 Coming Soon!

The perpetually relevant zinester greeting of “sorry it’s taken so long to update.” This summer has had its ups and downs. A big “up” was attending and vending at the Street Cat Zine Festival in Chillicothe, OH. I met a lot of rad folks there, got to split a booth with my bud Frankie, picked up some cool zines, and celebrated with a delicious burger and minor league baseball afterward.

So I’m currently working on the layout of Disco 3000 #4. This one is about indie sleaze-era Huntington. Indie sleaze, for the uninitiated, is the term coined by Gen Z to describe the 2005-2012 era (roughly) era of indie rock subculture that permeated my worldview. Really, like any retronym-dubbed era, it’s a mishmash of a lot of different music genres, styles, and subcultures, but who am I to quibble? (Granted, I do my fair share of quibbling in the zine).

Between the college radio station where I cut my teeth, Spin magazine, and all good culture that gets filtered to WV a few years too late, Huntington and I were steeped in indie sleaze for a good few years. It’s a rose-colored look at an era in time… at first. Eventually the glasses fall off to view today’s world and what in the past may have contributed to it, included those beloved years.

I should be rockin’ and rollin’ sometime this fall. I also desperately need to restock some online and brick and mortar spaces, so expect those this fall as well.

When my time at WordPress is up this spring, I’m trying to think if I want to renew or not. I’ve been pretty fascinated by NeoCities lately and am thinking about moving the blog to something like that.

Stay tuned for more details about Disco 3000 and possibly some other projects!
