Many Gods No Masters 2 coming soon!

I honestly wasn’t expecting to write a sequel to Many Gods No Masters, but two years later, here we are. For starters, during those two years, I wasn’t claiming pagan as a religious descriptor. I started working with Mothman Ministries, a local Christian Socialist group and started going back to a Christian Anarchist identity. I even preached an Easter sermon on a very cold March service in the park.

But something felt off, and I spent a lot of 2024 in a spiritual dark night of the soul. The end result is I Am a Flightless Bird: Many Gods No Masters 2. Some of the material was cut from the original MGNM, but a large chunk is about my search for what felt right.

There’s also a companion zine coming out. Upon the advice of my fellow minister Olly Snow (my friend and TikTok raconteur), I took a pilgrimage to try and make stuff make sense. In 2013, I had gone to a Summer Solstice weeklong event at Wisteria, a local pagan campground. With the combined synchronicity of being fired in January, the camp having volunteer all-expenses-comped positions, and getting a job during that week, I went back. I was able to experience a spiritual awaking chopping tomatoes and rolling in poison ivy. I turned my journal during the time into a second zine called A Pagan Pilgrimage: One Lapsed Pagan’s Journey to Wisteria.

I’ll be vending at Broom Not Vroom in Hurricane WV on September 21 and will have copies of both with me. If that’s not your speed, I’ll be having a zine release party date TBD in October, and then available online and in ye olde brick and mortar stores after that.
